I was born and raised in Senegal, West Africa. As far as I can remember I wanted to be a soldier and a doctor. I went to the French Naval School of Medicine at the University of Bordeaux, France.
I was designated to become a military surgeon but fell in love with pediatrics after a rotation in the Senegal River basin found me in the middle of a meningitis epidemic treating children. I never looked back at another specialty. I finished my training in Paris and Los Angeles and worked as a neonatologist and pediatrician in Inglewood for several years before returning to work in Senegal as a pediatrician.
I returned to Los Angeles in 1992 and reopened a practice in Inglewood. I have always been a safety net provider. Servicing the underprivileged has always given me great satisfaction professionally and personally.
Working in a non-profit structure is just a continuation of the same service with the same population.
